Marcus and I were in Alabama working in a booth handing out free walking sticks with a gospel message. While there we became good friends with Roger. Roger was there selling his wares. But in his spare time he had an evangelism ministry so he was pretty interested in what we were doing.
On the second day Roger came over during his break hoping to watch Marcus present the gospel a few times – maybe pick up a pointer or two. While he was standing in the aisle waiting for Marcus to finish with a group of teen agers he felt a tap on his shoulder. It was Steve, an old high school buddy that he hadn’t seen in 20 years.
Roger asked him what he was doing here. Steve said he had been walking around the show and saw several people carrying walking sticks. He heard he could get one at this booth and wondered what he had to do to get one. Roger, recalling that he and his friends had witnessed to Steve for years in school in vain said, “All you have to do is listen to that guy for a few minutes and you get the stick for free.”
Steve said, “I can do that.” After the teen agers left Roger and Steve sat down in front of Marcus. Marcus asked Steve, “Are you 100% sure, if you were to die today, that you would go to heaven?” Steve wasn’t sure and Marcus had the opportunity to show him, through accepting Jesus as his Savior, he could be sure. Steve bowed is head and asked Jesus to come into his heart.
Roger spent the rest of the day calling all his friends and telling them about the harvest he had seen that day from a seed they had planted 20 years ago. Never, never give up on your friend and loved ones – you never know when they will finally see the light.
